The Eastern Courier has been covering local issues in the Howick/Pakuranga and Pohutukawa communities since it started from a base in Panmure in 1965.
Like the community it serves, it has changed and grown to meet the needs of its readers. In 1993 the Eastern Courier set up in Howick and remained there until 2007 when we moved to larger premises in East Tamaki with sister papers the Manukau and Papakura Couriers.
This merger enabled a better exchange of stories between reporters and editors and more indepth coverage of issues affecting Manukau City residents.
We are the only community paper that serves in one issue the entire area from Pakuranga through Howick to Maraetai and south to East Tamaki and Flat Bush.
With 80,000 readers, the Eastern Courier is the most sought-after community paper in the eastern Manukau area. Our aim is to write stories that promote the talent and successes of people in our community, highlight issues that are affecting and concerning residents, and keep readers up-to-date and in touch with changes in their neighbourhood.
Many staff members have a personal interest in the area as residents and homeowners.
If something happens in our area we want to know about it. We want to share the experiences of residents. The eastern suburbs has a fascinating variety of cultures and talented people and we are keen to portray their experiences.
Our aim is to tell it as it is, with balanced stories always mindful of the impact they have on our readers.
