Cobra cars, Harley Davidson motorbikes and blue-dressed Mainfreight trucks will blast into Manukau this Sunday to launch the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s Blue September.

September is international prostate cancer awareness month and the convoy of about 150 vehicles will travel from Hamilton to Auckland to kick off the campaign.

The vehicles will arrive in Manukau at Bellagio’s Cafe in Plunket Ave, Wiri, around 2.30pm. They will be on display for a few hours.

Foundation president Barry Young hopes Blue September will encourage men to take responsibility for their health before it is too late.

"Men should talk to their doctors about being checked for prostate cancer from the age of 50 but these checks should start at the age of 40 if there is a history of prostate cancer in the family.

"Keep in mind that in its early stages this disease does not usually have symptoms.

"A man can be walking round with it developing in him and not know about it unless he has regular checks. If you can get on to prostate cancer early enough there is usually a better chance of curing it," he says.
