Emergency services are joining forces to reveal a glimpse into their daily roles.
They’re hosting an open day at Manukau’s Pacific Events Centre this Sunday.
Fire service, police, St John Ambulance and other community groups will demonstrate the Jaws of Life, kitchen fire demonstrations and a real house fire at the Volunteer and Emergency Services Open Day.
Kids can also pretend to be firefighters and spot the hazards in a fire hazard room before it gets burnt.
Auckland senior fire risk management officer George Stephens says it’ll be a fun yet educational day.
"It will show what our emergency services do in their communities," he says.
"The volunteers to the New Zealand Fire Service and other services are vitally important."
It’s the first time the open day has been held in Manukau – it’s been staged on the North Shore for the past two years, Mr Stephens says.
The day runs from 10am to 4pm and entry is free.
