Sir John gets into the swing for foundation

FIELD OF DREAMS: Sir John Walker tees off in the BNZ Golf Day at Whitford.

Athletics great Sir John Walker made his presence felt in another sport at Whitford Park Golf Club last week.

Sir John was one of 120 players taking part in the fifth BNZ Charity Golf Day with all proceeds going to the John Walker Find Your Field of Dreams Foundation.

By the end of the day, close to $20,000 had been raised for the foundation.

At the dinner which followed, Sir John thanked all those involved in making the day a success and said the money raised would go towards providing more sporting opportunities for young people in Manukau.

He also promised to return next year with his golf game in better shape.

Among other sporting personalities taking part in the BNZ Golf Day were former New Zealand cricketer Lance Cairns, former All Black Murray Kidd and top jockey Alan Peard.
