Cosmopolitan club's turban verdict due

Sikh Karnail Singh will find out at final mediation talks tomorrow whether the Manurewa Cosmopolitan Club will change its controversial ban on turbans.
The row began in November when the Age Concern Counties Manukau volunteer was denied entry to a special function in his honour at the club because his turban breached its ban on headwear.
Mr Singh and the Sikh community are calling on the club to join RSAs, the police and the courts in allowing turbans because they're a religious requirement rather than headwear like a hat.
The Human Rights Commission organised the mediation between members of the club board, Mr Singh and Sikh Council representatives last Wednesday.
The club's board was to meet tonight and is due to relay its decision about the turban ban at final mediation talks tomorrow.

All power to the Sikh community over the turban issue. Whether it be men wearing turbans or elderly ladies like Winnie Cooper wearing her headscarf, it's simply wrong to ban someone as if they were some criminal. What if the Malaysian trade minister was here with his wife and she was wearing her scarf? What if a group of Catholic nuns were to attend a function? This Cosmopolitian Club is a disgrace to New Zealand. Do they receive rate payer funded services from the local council? The South Auckland Sikh community has been extablished in the area for 120 years and have been paying their rates.
