Sunday is one for the kids at Omana Regional Park in Maraetai.

The normally serene seaside reserve will be humming with families making the most of the many free children’s day activities.

A magician, aqua bubbles, clowns, face painting and horse and carriage rides are but a taste of what’s in store.

Park ranger Mags Ramsey says Omana Children’s Day is a great opportunity for city kids to enjoy country life for a day.

"There will be lots of friendly farm animals to meet, tractor-trailer rides, sheep shearing and some good old-fashioned games including horse shoe and sponge throwing," she says.

Older kids are also catered for – Manukau on the Move will be there with its BMX obstacle course and the popular Scout village includes a rope bridge and water slide.

This year’s programme includes a talent show featuring the unique talents of young people from Beachlands and Maraetai.

Parking and entry is free as are most activities. Some games and rides cost a few dollars. There’s no eftpos available so bring along some gold coins.

There will be food stalls on site or families can bring a picnic.

Omana Regional Park is a great family park with picnic spots, camping, safe swimming at high tide and easy walks.
