Manukau East MP Ross Robertson is set to become the new Assistant Speaker of Parliament.
The move is part of Labour leader Phil Goff's reshuffle in the wake of the resignation of MP Darren Hughes.
Mr Robertson, who was Assistant Speaker for two terms under Labour, will take over from fellow Labour MP Rick Barker who will replace Mr Hughes as the party's chief whip.
While sorry to be giving up his senior citizens' portfolio, Mr Robertson says he'll enjoy "the cut and thrust of applying speakers' rulings and standing orders".
Parliament can appoint up to two MPs as Assistant Speakers.
