Fashion show a model opportunity

Catwalks are usually the domain of young waifs but models aged 65 and older will soon be strutting their stuff with the best of them.
Models for a fashion show at a Manurewa retirement village are being selected from the residents.
Guardian Health Care’s Erin Park Village manager Christian Hansen says very few fashion shows are aimed at the senior age group.
"While the focus of fashion is largely directed at younger people, there are plenty of older people who are simply missing out.
"Just because someone is aged over 65 doesn’t mean they automatically switch off when it comes to personal style and flair."
She says the event will go "just a small way" towards addressing the changing needs of seniors.
"Fashion is just one of a number of current and rapidly growing interests in this age group."
The interest in fashion might be new but some things don’t change.
Organisers have had no problem getting women to volunteer but blokes are in short supply.
"While it is easy to enlist the help of female residents to model the clothes it is definitely more difficult to recruit men for the event," Ms Hansen says.
The fashion show is open to the public and takes place at 11am on November 11 at Erin Park Village in Manurewa.
