Man charged with sleepout murder

A Manurewa man has been charged with murdering a 23-year-old woman at her family home last week.

Alicia McCallion was found dead by family members in the sleepout of their home in Cotton Pl, Papakura, around 7.30am - 11 hours after they last saw her alive. 

Police launched a homicide inquiry last week and this morning said they had charged a 39-year-old man with murder.

He is due to appear in the Manukau District Court today

Detective Inspector Mark Gutry said the arrest was the result of police enquiries and forensic examinations that took place last week.

McCallion, a former Rosehill College student, will be farewelled in Papakura on Thursday.

A funeral for McCallion, who attended hairdressing school at the Cutabove Academy for two years and passed with excellence, will take place at Fountains Memorial Chapel, Papakura, at 1pm on Thursday.
