Otara students' artistic efforts have netted them a national prize.
Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate students have won second place in the schools category of Resene's Mural Masterpieces competition.
The prize was awarded for a mural of rugby league legends Manu Vatuvei, Cynthia Ta'alu and Reuben Wiki, which the students painted at Ngati Otara Park.
The three league players are all from the Otara Scorpions rugby league club, based at the park, and all are former students of the school.
Resene marketing manager Karen Warman says the judges were highly impressed.
"The commanding yet simple palette of a strong red wall with three rugby league icons in monochromatic hues is striking," she says.
"The personalities of each player are captured superbly and remind students of what can be achieved."
