Churchgoers are hoping to save up to 300 lives in the new year.
Members from seven different Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints churches are coming together in Mangere for a blood drive and they are calling for support from the area.
The New Zealand Blood Service is hoping for between 80 and 100 donors to sign up for the drive.
Each donation can save the lives of up to three people, including cancer patients, accident victims or babies and pregnant women.
Church member and registered nurse Harriet Pauga, who is organising the drive, is encouraging locals to make donating blood a New Year's resolution.
"During Christmas and New Year especially there's a huge need for blood donors because there are usually a lot of accidents," Ms Pauga says.
The blood drive will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 15 Robertson Rd, Mangere East, from 9am till 3pm on January 3.
Call 0800 448 325 and mention "Manukau Stake" to register to donate.
