Six-year-old George Allan can't wait for Sunday.

That's when the little violinist and other beginner music students take to the stage at the Hawkins Theatre in Papakura for the Manukau Youth Orchestra's end-of-year concert.

The kids from the orchestra's teaching programme at Clendon Park School can barely contain their excitement, music director - and George's dad - Joseph Allan says.

"George has been learning violin for about half a year now," he says. "I tried teaching him when he was younger but it didn't work out. This will be his first concert.

"I started taking the orchestra in 2000 and it's great to now have my own children join."

As well as performances by the little ones, the seniors will perform works by Bach and Mozart.

Sunday's concert will last an hour and as always admission is free. It starts at 3pm.
