Plans under way for new Flat Bush school
Work on a new primary school in Flat Bush is set to start this year.
Ministry of Education head of infrastructure Kim Shannon says Ormiston Road Primary School is scheduled to open for the start of the 2015 school year.
"Master planning and design work is currently being completed with construction tenders due to be released during the first quarter of 2014," she says.
"Earthworks and construction are expected to commence during the second quarter of 2014."
The school was originally earmarked to open this year but it was delayed because population growth hasn't been as rapid as originally predicted. Ormiston Road Primary School will be on the same site as Ormiston Senior College and will be of similar size to Baverstock Oaks and Mission Heights Primary schools, with a roll of 700. Boards of trustees at surrounding schools were consulted in late 2012. The establishment board will decide how to consult with the community.
