Police are investigating after an elderly woman was found dead in her house in Featherston.

The 70-year-old woman was found this morning by a friend after they were not able to make contact over several days.

Police say initial inquiries have revealed circumstances which were "of concern".

The scene has now been secured with a detailed scene examination and post mortem to begin tomorrow morning.
