A 23-year-old man has been flown to Christchurch Hospital after crashing his hang-glider in a paddock at Governors Bay.

St John was alerted to the accident in Gebbies Pass Rd, near the Wheatsheaf Tavern, at 3.22pm today.

The man was taken to hospital with leg and shoulder injuries, a St John spokesman said..

"He may have a broken leg."

A rescue helicopter, ambulance and police attended the incident.

Police had "no idea" of the cause of the crash and a spokesman said they were still investigating.
