The driver accused of crashing into Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown while she was riding her bicycle has been charged over the incident.

Inspector Terry Van Dillen said a 38-year-old man would appear in the Wellington District Court next month charged with careless driving causing injury - an offence under the Land Transport Safety Act.

The driver was served with a traffic offence notice last night, Van Dillen said.

Wade-Brown complained to police last month after she was hit by a car while riding her bicycle.

At the time she said she had been riding near the Johnsonville Mall on the afternoon of Saturday October 27 when she was hit by a "careless" driver.

She was not seriously injured but had a sore elbow from the incident.

"It's not a big deal, it's far less than what most people get on the rugby field," she said.

Wade-Brown could not be reached for comment this morning.
