A seven-year-old boy has been seriously injured after being hit by a car on the Kapiti Coast this afternoon.

Inspector Marty Parker said the incident happened in Cottonwood Close, Paraparaumu, about 4.10pm.

An ambulance communications spokesman said the boy was in a serious condition and being flown to Wellington Hospital via the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

Westpac Rescue Helicopter crewman Julian Burn said the boy was knocked off a scooter in a low speed collision. The boy’s injuries were serious, but not life threatening, Mr Burn said.

Late last month Cannons Creek School pupil Junior Ianuali, 6, was killed when he was hit by a car metres from his home in Champion St, Cannons Creek.
