Hobbit fever is taking hold in Wellington, with at least three stars already in the capital ahead of Wednesday's big premiere.

Andy Serkis, Richard Armitage and Elijah Wood flew in to New Zealand this morning and have already flown to Wellington.

They were photographed at Auckland International airport before heading to the domestic terminal for the final leg of their journey.

Tens of thousands of people were expected to line the streets of Wellington for the world premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on Wednesday.

The weather forecast is good, with sunny skies and a high of 21 degrees Celsius predicted by MetService.
