A body found on a cocaine-laden yacht wrecked in Tonga has been identified.

The wreck of the yacht JeReVe was found three weeks ago on a reef at Luatafito Atoll in northern Tonga and police revealed that as well as a body, there was 204 kilograms of cocaine aboard.

According to Matangi Tonga, Tongan Police Commissioner Grant O'Fee has revealed they have identified the man whose remains were found on JeReVe as Milan Rindzak, 35, a Slovakian national.

He said United States authorities had advised his next of kin and they were awaiting instructions on the disposal of the remains in Vava'u.

Milan Rindzak was identified due to a combination of documents found on the yacht, including his passport and information from the autopsy.

He said there were other passports found on the yacht but that part of the inquiry was being handled by the Australian Federal Police and US authorities.

O'Fee, said police also found money in US currency amounting to several hundreds of dollars, Dominican Republic currency under $2000 and a few dollars of Polish currency under $20, that were on the yacht.

The money was currently being kept by Tonga police, he said.

The cocaine was flown to Australia for destruction last week.
