Police will today interview a 12-year-old girl who was grabbed by a man in New Brighton yesterday.

Detective Sergeant Richard Quested said the man was on a bike and appeared to have followed the girl from the New Brighton Library to North New Brighton about 6pm.

The man then tried to grab the girl near the intersection of Bowhill Rd and Marine Pde and drag her into bushes.

A member of public chased the man away.

"We're hoping to speak to her today," Quested said.

"Other than that, we're just continuing to look for this guy."

The girl would be interviewed by a specialist child interviewer.

Quested said the girl was "doing well" considering the traumatic situation.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw a man in the area yesterday.

The man was described as being in his 40s, about two metres tall, wearing a blue top and black pants and carrying a black school-type bag.

He was riding a blue mountain bike with white writing and was wearing a grey and blue cycle helmet.

Anyone with information should call Quested on (03) 363 7400.
