Police are investigating a suspected group sexual attack on a teenage girl in the Hastings suburb of Flaxmere on Friday night.
Detective Rob Parker, of Hastings police, said the 16-year-old was attacked by three or four men as she walked through Lochain Park on her way to a friend's house.
Police hoped a scene examination completed at the park yesterday would lead to further lines of enquiry.
Although the teenager was not seriously injured in the attack Parker said it appeared there was a sexual motive.
''We can't divulge the finer details of the assault at this stage, suffice to say the victim has gone through a significant traumatic event and is obviously trying to cope with this as best she can - with the support of her family."
Police want to speak with anybody who saw or heard any suspicious activity in the Lochain Park area on Friday night, between 10pm and 1am.
