Transgender First Lady lookalike
Michelle Obama is a style icon in her own right: this year alone the FLOTUS wore the new line by Jason Wu before anyone else, rocked a glittering piece by J Mendel and even braved leather skinnies. But she probably never imagined that by year-end she would be the inspiration for the cover of Spanish mag Candy, a monthly glossy "dedicated to celebrating transvestism, transsexuality, cross-dressing and androgyny".
The fifth issue of the mag - a past edition saw James Franco in drag on the cover - sees NY-based transgender model Connie Fleming on a cover styled by celeb fashionista Brad Goreski. Fleming wears a Whitehouse-approp tweed twinset with pearls, with one hand on the bible as if taking the Presidential oath.
There's a political statement behind it all, explained the mag's publisher in an interview with Dazed Digital. "I remember back in early 2007 when the Democratic Party's nominees were narrowed down between two 'controversial' stereotypes never before seen for presidency: a black man, Barack Obama; and a woman, Hillary Rodham Clinton.
"At the time, I thought, when will the time come when these archaic walls break down and the White House will be occupied by, for example, a black transsexual woman?"
