David and Victoria Beckham are reportedly spending Christmas at a luxurious resort in tropical paradise.

The couple are rumoured to have splashed out more than US$400,000 (NZ$486,000) on a family holiday in the Maldives.

The Beckhams, who have four children, are said to be enjoying the magnificent amenities at the One&Only Reethi Rah.

The hotel has a seaplane, 130 private villas, 40 pools and 12 beaches. It is also filled with "swirling vitality pools, crystal steam rooms, saunas and stimulating ice fountains".

The couple have booked four opulent suites that range from US$6,000 to $14,000 (NZ$7300 to $17,000) per night.

"It's the best resort in the Maldives and they are staying in the most expensive rooms," a source told British newspaper The Sun.

The couple, who are involved in fashion and other ventures, are said to have a combined US$265 million (NZ$322m) fortune.
