This photo was taken from Lake Edge Resort on the shores of Lake Taupo on Boxing Day 2012. Whilst devastating for the islands, the after effects of Tropical Cyclone Evan created a beautiful evening sky.

After his Fairlane locked him out, Keith Eleftheriou introduced himself to the guy in the batch next door. He helped Keith break in and him out to check the cray pots. Keith said no at first, as he way on his way out to dinner with his wife for their anniversary. But a shrill scream of, "you bloody well go out there and get me some cray!" changed his mind.

From frolicking furry friends to sizzling sunsets to epic Aotearoa landscapes, our readers captured the best of the Kiwi summer on film, and it was tough to choose our three winners. But it had to be done.

After finishing two months of fieldwork monitoring the Stewart Island Robin on Ulva Island, we celebrated with lunch on the beach and a quick dip off the jetty at Post Office Bay.
