Sir Cliff Richard got fans a-rockin' in Wellington but some were left reelin' after he took to the stage with ''good evening Auckland''.

Gwen Parsons, who was at the TSB Arena when Sir Cliff's Still Reelin' and A-Rockin' tour passed through last night, said the gaffe was greeted with a ''stunned silence'' by the crowd.

''People may have thought he was being funny,'' Parsons said.

However, it became clear Richard had been geographically mistaken, when he came back after the break and apologised, saying he understood he was in Wellington. He had been in Auckland on Saturday night.

The show itself was great but marred by an excessive break and an over-heated auditorium, she said.

Steve Howard, also in the audience, said fans were ''left reeling'' when Richard greeted the ''Auckland'' audience.

Reviewer Simon Sweetman described the show as "a night of nod-along nostalgia with the Peter Pan of pop and proud bachelor boy, a consummate professional serving up the hits".

He said, there were, of course, some slightly naff tunes and a fair bit of poorly judged audience-sourced percussion, but, "everyone was having fun".

"[It was] as good as a Cliff Richard show in 2013 was ever going to be. And then some."
