Tina Fey is developing Mean Girls the Musical.

The 30 Rock star penned the hit 2004 comedy starring Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Rachel McAdams.

Rumours have been swirling a musical version of the project was in the works.

The actress has confirmed she is adapting the film for a song-and-dance stage production with husband Jeff Richmond. 2004 comedy./

"I'm trying to develop it actually with my husband who does all the music for 30 Rock. I think Paramount's on board. Yeah," she told America's E! News.

Fey did not provide further details about the project, only saying she "would love to" see it come to life.

Her interview has prompted critics to speculate if she is eying the production for Broadway.

Mean Girls starred Lindsay Lohan as Cady Heron, a high school transfer student who has trouble fitting in and eventually becomes a hit with a girl clique called "The Plastics". Tina also starred in the film as high school teacher Ms. Norbury.

Amanda Seyfriend, who played ditzy "Plastic" Karen Smith, recently admitted she's more proud of her work on Mean Girls than any other film to date.

"I still look back at Mean Girls as my best work," the Oscar-nominated Les Miserables star told indiewire.com.

"I was so innocent. I was so green. I look back and I'm like, 'Really, I thought I was doing a terrible job,'" she mused.

Executives at Paramount have yet to confirm their involvement in the production of Mean Girls the Musical.
