Axed Black Caps skipper Ross Taylor is poised to return to international cricket, after being named in New Zealand's Twenty20 and one-day teams to play England today.

Taylor had already been selected in a New Zealand XI to play England in two warm-up games in Whangarei next week - but will now return to a Black Caps team he decided against touring with to South Africa.

Otago opener Hamish Rutherford is the only new cap in the Twenty20 and one-day squads, earning a call-up for the T20 series.

Hamish is the second Rutherford to represent New Zealand with his father Ken captaining the team in the 1990s during a decade-long career.

Veteran team mate Ian Butler returns to the international fold for the series, as well.

Canterbury all-rounder Andrew Ellis returns to both squads after an injury saw him miss the recent tour to South Africa.

Black Caps coach Mike Hesson said it was great to have Ellis and Taylor back in the team alongside youngsters like Rutherford.

"Andrew proved his worth with the team last summer while Ross is a world-class batsman who is a key part of this Black Caps side."

"Hamish has shown he is an explosive batsman and we hope he can bring that form to the Black Caps," he said.

National selection manager Kim Littlejohn said the selectors were keen to deliver stability in their selections following the South African tour.

 "There are a couple of changes that have been forced through injury but essentially we want to be seen to provide continuity from one series to the next,'' he said.

 "We are however looking at developing talented youngsters and finding a new crop of allrounders in our build-up to the Champions Trophy in June and the 2015 Cricket World Cup."

The first Twenty20 international against England takes place at Eden Park on Ferbuary 9.
