A Wairarapa bulldozer operator has survived a brush with death after the machine he was operating tumbled about 200 metres down a hill.

The incident happened on a farm northwest of Castlepoint late this morning.

Westpac rescue helicopter crewman Dave Greenberg said the man in his 50s suffered multiple injuries, none of which appeared to be life-threatening.

Emergency services arrived to find the bulldozer had landed upright and the man was being looked after by his co-workers, he said.

"Luckily the guy did not get thrown out of the bulldozer cab on the way down.''

The man was transported to Wellington Hospital for treatment.
