Police have named the woman killed when she was struck by a train in Christchurch early yesterday.

Sheena Louise Wright 41, of Christchurch, was struck by a train just north of the Hornby shopping complex at about 4.50am.

Investigators are continuing enquiries into the circumstances of the fatality and have been speaking to friends and associates of the deceased, police said.

Enquiries are focused on establishing the woman's movements in the hours leading up to the incident.

Police are still calling for information from members of the public who may have seen or heard anything, particularly between approximately 3am and 5am.
