A stolen car used during three armed robberies at Auckland tourist hotspots on Sunday has been found, partially burnt out, in Onehunga this morning.

At least four people, including tourists, had property stolen during the robbery spree at the Auckland Domain Winter Gardens and Mt Eden.

The offender, described as a Maori or Polynesian man aged in his late 20s to 40s, pulled a pistol at two people who he robbed at the gardens, and at a person at the base of Mt Eden as well as a group of tourists at the summit of the volcanic cone.

Police said they had recovered the stolen Holden Commodore SV6 about 7am. The vehicle would be forensically examined.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle, registration GPH784, in Onehunga, Mangere or Hillsborough over the past 24 hours, or anyone who may have seen it being set alight.

"Whoever dumped and burnt the car had to have been assisted to get out of the area, so we're keen to hear from anyone who saw this car travelling in tandem with any other vehicle and people,"  Detective Inspector Scott Beard said.

Anyone with information can call the Auckland Central CIB on 0274 367 561 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
