Sponsor again gives parade aid

This year's Kumeu Rotary Christmas parade has been given a helping hand.

Tegel Foods has donated $5000 to the parade, which is on December 11 from 7pm.

Last year, the 40-year event could have ended following a financial shortfall, but Tegel came to the rescue because many of its growers are in the district.

Tegel business development manager Paul Hancock says supporting the locals who enjoy and get involved in the huge community parade is also important.

Organisers Cam Crawford and Dale Wallace say Tegel's financial boost makes it easier, especially in the current economic climate.

So far there are about 110 entries confirmed with other highlight events like the carols singalong and Waimauku Lions wheelbarrow race. Last year, thousands lined up to cheer on the biggest parade of its history with a record 67 entries and 120 floats. Organisers hope to see more join the festive party.
