Founder of band Sola Rosa, Andrew Spraggon of Helensville is helping make a difference for the threatened sumatran tigers.
The band is performing at the popular ZooMusic performances at Auckland Zoo with Anika Moa on February 13.
The 6pm event will raise awareness and funds to help protect the sumatran tiger as the Chinese New Year of the tiger begins.
Singer and songwriter Anika Moa was named the best female vocalist at last year’s New Zealand music awards and has gold, platinum and double platinum albums under her belt.
Her honest songs and upbeat stage presence will be complemented by the powerhouse sounds of Sola Rosa with everything from dub to hip hop, lounge and jazz.
Lisa Crawley will open the three-hour concert with her brand of playful folk pop.
"Sumatran tigers are extremely endangered with less than 400 in existence. That alone is enough for us to feel humbled in being able to support such a worthy cause," says Spraggon.
Auckland Zoo’s conservation officer Peter Fraser says its conservation fund supports 21st Century Tiger’s Kerinci Seblat National Park project in Sumatra, especially to stop poachers and traffickers.
"While helping tigers, the project also protects other species that live in the same environment like rhino, elephants, orangutan, clouded leopards and others. This way our conservation dollars go further," Mr Fraser says.
