Charities are flourishing from the generosity of the Kumeu Art in the Garden festival.

West Auckland Hospice and the Kumeu Huapai volunteer fire station have received $4500 each following the success of the event in November last year.

It showcases the best regional artists and sculptors in some of the nor-west region’s award-winning gardens.

Graham McIntyre, founder of the event, says there was positive feedback from about 1000 visitors to the six gardens.

"The relaxed setting helped the engagement between artists and the public, who were a lot more interested in the works and other inspirations around them."

Children are welcome to come along to this year’s event to be held from November 6 to 7. It will also feature food and music.

Kumeu Huapai chief fire officer Andrew Beattie says the station intends to buy a thermal imaging camera to help rescue people, especially when trapped in a house fire or thrown from a vehicle.

West Auckland Hospice chief executive Barbara Williams says hospice hopes to increase its services in the western ward of Rodney.

Rotary Kumeu representatives will continue being involved in organising the festival. Prospective Rotary members can phone Geoff Hope on 411-8757.
