Occasional gusty winds didn't deter 30 campers from Te Awaroa Youth Club at South Head’s Highams Beach.

An action-packed five days included survivor games, fishing, talent quests, an overnight bush stay and team events.

The annual summer camp gives young people leadership training. Themes of youth participation and respect were displayed in songs and skits on the final night.

Rodney District Council youth development officer Nicola Reid spoke about being active in the community, encouraging youth to be involved in the South Kaipara Youth Forum.

The camp is sponsored by the council and Lotteries Grants Board.
