An annual garden event that attracted a high standard of entries has announced its winners.
The Kumeu Best Garden Competition results were reached after much contemplation from judges.
"The competition delivers enormous satisfaction and personal pride to the contestants, and we want to extend congratulations to them all," says Graham McIntyre, founder of the competition.
"The number of entries was down but the standard was up which made it very difficult for judging the finalists and ultimately the winner for 2009."
The overall winner was Jill and Vern Warren of Dragonfly in Muriwai Valley Rd, Waimauku.
"This outstanding lifestyle property has been beautifully crafted out of low-lying grazing land and developed based on a simple flow of natural springs and gentle contours that have provided glades of colour mixed with traditional hard landscaping features," say the judges.
The finalists were Molsarene of Oraha Rd, Ashcombe of Coatesville Riverhead Highway – runner-up, Willows Reach of Boord Cres, Kumeu – runner-up and Dharamkot of Waikoukou.
A special award was presented to John and Diane Sumner of Matua Rd, Waimauku for the most fun garden.
This year’s competition runs from October 1 to November 30 and is open to all nor-west gardens.
Four of last year’s best gardens will be on display at the Kumeu Art in the Garden Festival on November 6 and 7.
All proceeds go to charity.
