An all-star musical event was held to celebrate Matariki at the old surf club.
Twins Ariel and Noam Lazarus-Mercer, 8, from Whiti te Ra Rewiti Marae opened the event with the puutatara (shell trumpet) and karakia (prayer).
Entertainment then got the crowd of 120 grooving with a short set from Zuubi the beat wizard, followed by the band Kinaki.
Headliner Kara Gordon and his band captivated the audience, along with their jam featuring nor-west residents Tamar Lazurus on flute and Natrose Te Heu on vocals.
Kara won a three-year scholarship to Berkeley University in his younger days and is now playing his blues guitar at many festivals including Womad, Byron Bay and next year Glastonbury.
There were also special guest appearances from Hollie Smith, pdiggz from Shapeshifter, KP and Stauney from Sunshine soundsystem.
The event was the 10th organised by Natrose, with funding by Auckland Council and support by Kaipara College student Kalib Lawes on the sound desk, music teacher Nick Nick Roberts for the PA and Muriwai Massive for decorations and catering.
