KIDDING AROUND: Baby goats Cherry and Sway of Muriwai are naturally playful.

They're inquisitive, playful and naughty. And not just human kids.

The young dairy goat kind are ready to mix and mingle for a training day on Sunday as nor-west schools prepare for their traditional Agricultural Days.

They are on show for the Auckland Dairy Goat Association's open field day at Kumeu Showgrounds from 10am to 2pm.

Children and adults are welcome to handle, groom, lead or just generally care for the goats.

They are also encouraged to bring their own young goats along too.

Denise Houghton of Muriwai says the animals are easy to train because they love being around people.

"They've got beautiful personalities," the association member says. "You can milk them and make your own cheese too."

Mrs Houghton has reared goats on a large family farm for the past two years and says it's a lifestyle.

The goats have also tagged along to her workplace at Gumboots Early Learning Centre to help teach children how to care for the friendly animals.

The training day will also feature demonstrations, food and refreshments.

Call Denise on 411 8520 or Wendy on 411 8758 for more information.
