Spectators have free entry to check out the competitive style and grace of about 600 horses in the North Island Show Jumping Championships.

Show Jumping Waitemata hosts this weekend's event at Woodhill Sands, starting tomorrow from 10.30am through to Sunday evening.

Bring the family and take a picnic while seeing some of Australasia's elite riders.

The Australian riders will be using this event as a lead up for the Horse of the Year in Hastings in March.

Highlights of Saturday's programme include The Reflection Treatment Systems North Island Grand Prix starting from 12.45pm, followed by The Country 99 TV North Island Pony Speed Championship at 3.30pm.

Spectators should be on the edge of their seats while watching riders battle it out for the title in the Harney Fine Teas North Island Horse Speed at about 6pm.

Sunday's programme includes the main attraction- The AON Bayer North Island Super League Title kicking off just after lunch in ring one. The event features big jumps from 1.45 to 1.60 metres and up to 2 metres wide.
