A second set of traffic lights is now operating in Kumeu.
The lights were installed to provide access to New World Kumeu which opens on April 1.
Long-time residents and workers are bemused at the transformation with congestion starting to course through the main street at peak hour times.
Vehicles can no longer park along State Highway 16 because it has been widened to four lanes before merging into two.
Drivers are now parking at Kumeu shopping village causing congestion, with some being towed.
Auckland Transport media manager Mark Hannan says the traffic flow situation will be monitored after the new supermarket opens to see if it settles down.
