Rural farmers are being warned against leaving their keys in the ignition after a spate of vehicle thefts in the nor-west.
Trail bikes, tractors and 4 x 4 vehicles are easy prey when farmers leave keys in the ignition, Helensville Sergeant Paula Enoka says.
Tools from rural sheds are also a common target for thieves.
She urges farmers to lock their sheds and keep valuables out of sight.
"Some people just leave the shed open with all the toys out.
"Any kind of tools that are sitting there thieves will take." Farmers could park tractors in the sheds last to block access to the tools.
