Singers bringing carols to the masses

16:00, Nov 09 2012

The Joy of Christmas will be presented by the Hibiscus Coast Singers next month.

The first concert is on December 1 at 7.30pm and the second a day later at 2.30pm, at St Stephen's Anglican Church on Stanmore Bay Rd.

A selection of Christmas carols both new and traditional has been chosen by concert musical director Barry Golding.

Of interest are some carols with New Zealand and Australian flavours.

There will also be a lovely suite written especially for the Hibiscus Coast Singers by noted New Zealand composer David Hamilton. A highlight will be Mozart's Short Mass in C with solos by choir members, accompanied by organist John Hume.

Other popular offerings will be opera choruses, accompanied by Prue Bell; the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Verdi's Nabucco, and lively, humorous pieces from Don Pasquale and The Bartered Bride.

The Hibiscus Coast Singers won fourth prize in their category at the International Choral Festival in Beijing in July.
