A little colour has changed Joan Ghest’s life.
Ill health left her with a partially painted kitchen before Age Concern North Shore made her the first subject of its Brighten Up project.
Her kitchen was repainted professionally and decorated with flowers.
She was also taken out for lunch.
A grateful Mrs Ghest says getting the free renovation was a big relief because her husband is in a resthome and she has been maintaining her house and garden herself.
"I felt really pampered," she says.
"Thank you to everyone – it really has brightened up my life".
HDL Decorating contracts manager Paul Green initiated the Brighten Up project in an effort to enrich the lives of North Shore elderly.
His firm and other sponsors combine to offer their services to older people in need.
All people over 65 years who own and live in their own homes within the North Shore city boundaries are eligible.
Application forms are available from Age Concern’s office.
For further information phone 489-4975.
