Monique Corness says Plunket was a life saver when her first born arrived.
Her son Oisin Sanna was born with severe reflux.
At first she thought he was just crying all the time because he was a baby but after a visit to a Plunket family centre she found out the source of the problem.
The Browns Bay resident says it was a huge relief for her and Plunket were great at finding ways to ease Oisin’s symptoms.
"The hardest thing is admitting you need help and having the confidence to go ahead and ask for help," says Ms Corness.
When Oisin was four months old Ms Corness started volunteering with Plunket’s coffee and music groups.
Since then she has started to build a career with Plunket and works as its appeal co-ordinator as well as keeping up a volunteer position as president of the Sunnynook committee.
North Shore Plunket is having appeal shows to raise funds for the family centres.
Children’s entertainment group, the Pokadots will be performing at Active Zone in Glenfield on November 7, Sherwood Primary on November 14 and Orewa Community Hall on November 30.
The shows are from 10am to 11.30am and entry is $10 per child.
There will be coffee and stalls at each venue.
The family centre is partly funded by the government but relies on donations to help new parents.
