Ann Froude came to work to find the recycling shop she volunteers at trashed and vandalised.
She helps at the Green Bee Hive op shop in Browns Bay. It is part of the Friends of Sherwood and all proceeds go to the organisation.
Friends of Sherwood co-ordinator Tricia Cheel says the shop was a mess.
Items were thrown around, some clothes, books and money were also stolen and the light bulbs were smashed.
She says the shop has no insurance because last time they had a break-in the insurance company said the items could not be claimed because they were second-hand goods and it was impossible to value them.
A neighbour alerted the police that there were about six youths hanging around the block of shops on Glencoe Rd on Wednesday at about midnight.
Ms Cheel says the resident heard breaking glass and that was probably the youths smashing the windows of the neighbouring fish and chip shop. "It’s just pointless vandalism."
The police sent dogs to try and catch the youths but were unable to find them.
The Friends of Sherwood is an environmental society.
At the moment the group is focusing on cleaning up Taiaotea Stream and the proceeds from the op shop go towards the project.
