Unstable cliffs good in tsunami

Residents in Browns Bay may be confused where to run in an emergency.
North Shore City Council signs at the southern end of Browns Bay beach say to be aware of unstable cliffs above but another advises people to run up the same cliffs during a tsunami alert.
Paul Jury says he often walks on the beach with his wife and pieces of the cliff fall off.
Council civil defence manager David Keay say all of the cliffs on the North Shore are unstable, not just in Browns Bay.
"The cliffs are not that unstable. It would be a very safe place to run in a tsunami," says Mr Keay.
But the council does want to warn people walking below the unstable cliffs that rocks may fall on to the beach below. Even whole trees have been known to fall off the cliff, he says.
Mr Keay says any of the cliffs on the North Shore would be a good place to be in tsunami.
