A cheque for $2700 will be put towards helping the North Shore Arthritis Foundation clinic.

The money was donated by Hillcrest Lions Club International, a group that is dedicated to helping local services and making an impact on the community.

Hillcrest president Sue Dixon says they chose the arthritis foundation as their main charity to donate to this year because a lot of people in their club have arthritis or have family members who have the condition.

Money was raised from a Diwali festival night, an Indian traditional celebration, held last month and organised by Lions member Asodhi Pillay.

More than 120 people attended the evening meal and dance.

The group is planning to do further fundraising for the charity.

North Shore Arthritis Foundation service centre co-ordinator Julia McIndoe says the money will go towards their free local clinic.

They are also hoping to use some of the money to travel to local schools to help teachers and students learn to help others with arthritis.
