Ensembles from Westlake girls and boys high schools dominate the finalists at this year's National Chamber Music Contest.

Six Auckland groups have been selected as finalists and four of them include players from Westlake Girls High School and Westlake Boys High School.

Two sisters from Westlake girls dominate that line-up as each plays in two ensembles including one where they play together.

Stella and Sally Kim have both been playing for more than 10 years.

Stella, 17, plays the violin with a group called Trio for Martinu.

Sally, 15, plays the cello with Roseberry Trio.

Together, they play in Euphonious Quartet.

Other Auckland finalists include students from St Cuthbert's College, Kingsway College and Epsom Girls Grammar.

The six Auckland finalist ensembles have been selected following three weeks of regional competitions taking place in 15 cities with more than 2000 students and 513 ensembles taking part.

They will compete against six other finalist groups from Christchurch, Hamilton and Dunedin.

The New Zealand Community Trust Chamber Music competition is now in its 45th year and is the only nationwide chamber music competition for young musicians and composers.

The national semifinal of the New Zealand Chamber Music Contest is on today at the Wellington Town Hall followed by the final tomorrow.
