Courtney Sutherland will soon leave for the United States to begin a three-month internship that will see her working on the world's largest trading floor.

The former Rangitoto College student will be working for the Royal Bank of Scotland based in Stamford, Connecticut.

An Auckland University business student, Miss Sutherland is the first recipient of the Kea New Zealand winter internship award.

"Working for the Royal Bank of Scotland is an amazing opportunity and I am honoured to have been awarded the scholarship.

"This will be an experience I reflect on for many years to come," she says.

Another former Rangitoto College and Auckland University student Craig Donaldson already works at the bank as the managing director.

He also began his professional career on the trading floor of Bankers Trust, learning to apply his trade under the watchful eye of the future leader of New Zealand John Key.

The Kea award is a new initiative that will place students from the country's top business schools into multinational organisations based in the United States.
