A North Shore food production company has won the supreme award in this year's Westpac Enterprise North Shore Business Excellence Awards.

Albany-based EasiYo Products Ltd also brought home the Spyglass Excellence in Exporting award, capping a big night at the awards gala on Friday.

The gala dinner was the biggest in the awards' 13-year history, with more than 750 people attending to recognise business excellence on the Shore and Rodney.

Judges recognised EasiYo as an exceptional business, making an outstanding contribution to New Zealand.

"EasiYo is passionate about growing their organisation through innovation and determination and goes the extra mile for their customers," says convener of judges Matthew Bellingham.

"They exceed their financial goals while also ensuring their culture and principles are held high. EasiYo sets the standard as an exceptional supreme winner."

A Shore success story, the company started from humble beginnings in 1992, selling at the Auckland Home Show.

It topped $30 million in sales in 2009, with 75 percent export-based.

EasiYo chief executive officer Paul O'Brien says the company takes pride in being the biggest manufacturer of premium, homemade yoghurt in the world.

The company is looking forward to expanding business further into the nutritional market where there are many interesting growth opportunities in probiotics, omega 3, folates, weight loss, energy, heart disease, gut health and immune system.

Enterprise chief executive officer Terry Hoskins says EasiYo epitomises business excellence.

"Theirs is a true success story, a local company that started small and is now taking on the world and making a huge impact.

"We congratulate EasiYo for their inspirational story and look forward to seeing them continue to grow," he says.
