A North Shore beauty clinic has issued a warning after a $150,000 laser machine used for removing unwanted hair was stolen.
Elisabeth De Felice from Vein and Laser in Sunnynook says the machine can cause severe burns and in the wrong hands can be dangerous.
She is warning people who want unsightly hair removed to make sure they go to an accredited beautician and not be tempted by cheap offers.
Dr De Felice is concerned about the safety issues for both the thieves and anyone they may treat with the machine.
"They didn’t steal the protective goggles and both patients and physicians should wear them to protect their eyes from burning."
The clinic has an alarm but it didn’t sound.
Dr De Felice says security personnel visited at around 5.30am and didn’t notice anything but when staff arrived a few hours later they saw the kitchen had been broken into.
She thinks perhaps the thieves knew exactly what they wanted because they only took the machine and left the money, computer and ultrasound machines.
The machine costs around $150,000 and is insured.
The theft has been reported to the police and has been referred to the burglary squad.
It is not the first time the clinic has been targeted by thieves. A few years ago copper pipes were taken from the basement.
